About Program Consultant/Project Officer

Kevin Collins joined the Office of Smoking and Health as a Program Consultant/Project Officer in March 2002.  He joins the Program Services Branch in providing technical assistance and leadership to the 50 states, District of Columbia, and U.S. Territories in implementing comprehensive tobacco control and prevention strategies.

Kevin is very active in the Office on Smoking and Health’s disparities elimination efforts.  This effort has included the implementation of a ‘Pilot Project’ which led states and territories through a strategic planning process to identify and eliminate tobacco-related disparities.  Kevin has provided leadership to the National Network Initiative, one of the office’s primary efforts to reduce tobacco use in diverse populations.

Previous to joining the CDC, Kevin was the Director of the Office of Minority Health with the Texas Department of Health.  This position allowed him to exercise leadership, knowledge of minority health and health disparities and develop strategies to create healthy communities.  His responsibilities included charting the strategic direction for the program and providing consultation to state leadership on issues that impacted health outcomes and health access for the more than 9 million ethnic/racial minorities and underserved communities in Texas.

Kevin is currently serving as a Lead Health Education Specialist (Team Leader) in the Program Services Branch and is Doctorial Candidate at Clark Atlanta University.
